URL: You Can’t Copy Respect

Viewed by many as the founder of the modern day battle rap environment, the Ultimate Rap League (URL) came about following the success of the Smack DVDs which contained some of the first filmed battle raps. After the initial battles proved to be quite popular, Smack White and Eric Beasley partnered up to host battle events through the URL, which took these battles from the streets and parking lots to indoor venues. The Ultimate Rap League continues to help mold the battle rap culture today as many other leagues have followed in the URLs footsteps to help legitimize the art form.
